The traditions of our inherited repertoire can limit the types of stories that are told on opera stages. New stories with meaning for a new public may not meet the expectations of established audiences. At the same time, the stories of canonic works may not appeal to newcomers to the art form. This session will explore the options and strategies for new and revised story-telling in opera.
