Michael Duffy joined the British Council as Music Programme Manager in March 2017. He leads on projects in the Americas and European Union regions as well as work in classical music and opera/music theatre. Prior to joining the British Council he worked with the UK's Mahogany Opera Group, Spitalfields Music and the London Sinfonietta.

The British Council is the UK’s cultural relations organisation. Our work in the arts and culture creates opportunities for exchange and understanding between organisations and practitioners in the UK and overseas. We work in a over 100 countries, with programmes encompassing music, theatre, dance, design, architecture, fashion, literature, visual arts, film and the creative economy. Our activity focuses on: sharing the best of UK arts; capacity building within cultural sectors; fostering international networks and collaborations; undertaking research around cultural policy; and programmes that explore social change through the arts.

British Council’s music team works across all musical genres and with artists, producers, creative practitioners and organisations. Current and future areas of focus include: weekly radio show, The Selector; creative residencies for music-creators; showcasing emerging UK talent through partnerships with festivals; music industry development initiatives; gender equality in the music sector; the relationship between music and cities; opportunities and technology for musicians with disability; interdisciplinary work, in particular music/film and music/technology.
